Can dogs eat tomato?

Okay in small amounts

Ripe red tomato flesh is fine in small amounts — but green parts are toxic.

🐱 Can cats eat this?

Why

The ripe red fruit is safe as an occasional treat. The green parts — leaves, stems and unripe green tomatoes — contain solanine and tomatine, which can be harmful in quantity, so keep dogs out of the tomato patch.

If you do share it

A small amount of washed, ripe red tomato with no stem or leaves. Avoid green/unripe tomatoes.

Signs of trouble to watch for

  • Stomach upset (from green parts)
  • Lethargy
  • Weakness
