How We Rank Pet Products
Last updated: June 2026
Furmojo is an independent pet product comparison tool — not a veterinary service. Our rankings are based entirely on publicly available product data, not brand relationships or paid placements. Here is exactly how a product earns its position.
1. Data Collection
We source product information from Amazon.in (India) and Amazon.com (US) listings, including ingredient lists, nutritional guaranteed analysis, weight, price, and customer review data. We update our database regularly to keep pricing and availability current.
2. Scoring Criteria
Each product is scored across four dimensions:
- Ingredient quality — named protein sources (e.g. chicken, salmon) are scored higher than generic meal or by-product. Grain-inclusive formulas and recognisable whole-food ingredients rank better than heavily processed alternatives.
- Nutrition specs — crude protein, fat, moisture, and fibre content evaluated against AAFCO / BIS minimum standards for the stated life stage. Products meeting or exceeding minimums score higher.
- Owner-verified ratings — Amazon star rating weighted by verified purchase count. A product with 10,000 ratings at 4.4★ outranks one with 200 ratings at 4.6★.
- Price-per-unit — cost per kg (food) or per serving (treats, supplements) calculated from current Amazon listing price, so you can compare real value across pack sizes.
3. Quiz & Filter Rankings
When you use the quiz or category filters, results are sorted by a relevance score that weights tag matches (life stage, concern, diet type) against the four criteria above. Products that match more of your selected filters rank higher within each quality tier.
4. What We Do Not Do
- We do not accept payment from brands for higher rankings or placement.
- We do not conduct veterinary reviews or clinical product testing.
- We do not personally test every product — rankings are data-driven, not hands-on.
- We do not guarantee that any product is right for your specific pet.
5. Blog Content
Our blog posts are written using publicly available veterinary nutrition research, product specification data, and Amazon owner reviews. We cite sources (Merck Veterinary Manual, AAFCO, peer-reviewed studies) where applicable. Blog content is informational only — it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified veterinarian.
⚠️ Veterinary disclaimer
